Bosses and wild targets
Pick your goal before you pick your method: quiet, fast, safe, or keeping the loot. An overview of all seven targets.
Checked against the patch notes on .
There are five lair bosses and two wild targets. Health figures come from the extracted data; tactics come from the community wiki, named creator guides and the official patch notes. Normal Hunter damage rules don't describe boss armor, immunities, frenzy resistance or damage caps. Beginner contracts can lower boss health, so these numbers aren't universal.
Decide what you're optimizing for
Before choosing a method, I decide what matters most this time:
- Cheap or quiet: save consumables and noise.
- Fast: kill it before other teams arrive, at the cost of noise and consumables.
- Safer: lower risk to you, usually slower.
- Keeping the loot: avoid destroying what the boss drops or what's lying in the lair.
These pull against each other, which is why every boss page lays them out separately. One-hit demonstrations from videos need precise positioning and timing. I treat them as techniques, not guarantees.
At a glance
| Target | Type | Health (extracted) | What works |
|---|---|---|---|
| Butcher | Boss | 2000 | Rending melee and suitable explosives. Fire doesn't work. |
| Spider | Boss | 2000 | Fire. Poison doesn't work. |
| Assassin | Boss | 1500 | Blunt melee, poison and fire. Its form changes complicate explosives. |
| Scrapbeak | Boss | 2000 | Piercing and poison, aimed around the armored backpack. |
| Bloodskin | Boss | 4000 (two 2000 phases) | Piercing and fire on exposed weak points; rending helps more after the phase change. |
| Rotjaw | Wild target | 1200 | Poison and strong melee; the exposed mouth is a good target. |
| Hellborn | Wild target | 2200 | Water and choke, plus heavy ranged hits. Its explosive resistance went up in 2.7. |
What applies to every fight
- Keep an exit route, watch your stamina, and listen for other teams before committing to a long animation.
- Clear dangerous monsters nearby first, and don't trap your own escape behind wire.
- In a team, one player can watch the outside while another handles the target.
- If other teams are close, the fastest PvE method can be the wrong one: you may need those consumables for the fight that follows.
- A boss frenzy is a signal to back off, not to trade hits.
- Banishing a lair boss and a wild target's automatic banish on death are different interactions.
